Blue Post

Outland

Airing on ABC 1, Wednesday nights at 9:30 pm from 8 February, Outland was one of the first Australian TV programs to be shot entirely with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II camera, a digital SLR with a full frame CMOS sensor. Director Kevin Carlin and DOP Joanne Donahoe-Beckwith worked closely with Blue Post to give each episode a look that related to a particular sci-fi film or TV show. Feature films such as Alien and sci-fi programs like Blake's 7 and Star Trek were all presented as references for colourist Marcus Smith. VFX supervisor Paul Gehrig worked on a number of visual effects shots across all episodes, including a foreboding sky replacement shot in episode four, where a swirling sky gathers around the top of a dilapidated building, covered in digitally created graffiti.
